Sample Projects

Michelle can excel at any work that you would assign to a litigation associate:

  • Drafting. Preparation of complaints, motions, supporting briefs, or oppositions.

  • Research. Any issue, no matter how targeted or complex.

  • Document review and assembling that evidence into compelling case narratives.

  • Deposition preparation.

Michelle’s accounting background also makes her uniquely qualified to assist attorneys with understanding financial and other accounting evidence.

What is Freelancing?

Consider me a ghost writer. I work behind the scenes.* I do not represent clients. An attorney hiring me has ultimate responsibility for the work product that I produce. It is similar to a partner delegating work to a trusted associate. But instead of committing to the overhead of hiring an associate, you are bringing on an independent contractor for a single project.

*Ohio ethical guidance requires disclosure to the client that you are using an independent contractor. Click here for an informative Ohio advisory opinion.

Top 5 Reasons to Hire By the Brief

#1:  You can hand me the case file, tell me what you need done, and I have the experience to deliver.  No training needed.

#2:  You do not enjoy spending hours at your computer researching or writing.  I actually love being in the weeds of cases.  Research and legal writing are fun for me!  This passion is reflected in my work product.

#3:  There are days you wish you had an associate, but most of the time you manage well on your own.  Hiring me provides the help of an associate when you need it, without any commitment beyond the project.

#4:  Your case involves financial fraud, audits or financial statements.  I have an accounting degree.  Turn me loose on financial statements and catch your adversaries by surprise with your grasp of the financial facts.

#5:  You sit down to write a brief or analyze a new legal issue and keep getting interrupted.  Without the distraction of running a law office, I can on focus on creating the work product that you need.

Fee Structure

Work can be done on an hourly basis or a per project flat fee. Rates vary by the project. Michelle will work with you to determine a reasonable fee that meets your client’s needs and adds value to your project.
